Two Years

It’s been two years without the man that taught me what a real man should be.

Without the man that gave me my golden hair, Dutch girl stature, and quiet, self conscious nature.

Without the one who taught me to build, to use my hands, to seek God’s wisdom and to love well.

Without the man that passed on a love for playing in the dirt (gardening), the peace that comes from being near the water, the contentment that comes from a home cooked meal and the comfort of home itself.

Without the father who always made me feel protected, safe, valued, loved and enough.

Without the man who led quietly but strongly, who loved and lived a simple life, who put God first and who loved his family fiercely but gently.

Without the man who had an infectious laugh and smile, could absolutely talk your ear off if given the chance and who robustly believed that “nothing good happens after 10 o’clock, [Jennifer!].”

Without the hugs that could absolutely envelop me, the hands that made me feel small yet safe, the wisdom that could school me without the sting, and the comfort of being together and sometimes not saying a word.

Without the person that “got me” maybe more than anyone on this earth…

I will always miss you.
I will always be grateful for everything you did for me.
I will always praise God that you’re in your heavenly home and free.
I will always, always love you.
